Description

The U.S. Navy heavy lift cranes USS Crilley (AHLC-1), left, and USS Crandall (AHLC-2) Naval Station Subic Bay, Philippines, in 1967.

Both ships were built in 1942 in Germany as Energie and Ausdauer. They were leased by the United Nations to clear the Suez Canal in 1957 and later laid upon completion. Both were purchased by the U.S. Navy in 1967 at Bremerhaven, Germany, from Bugsier-, Reederei & Bergungs-AG, and assigned to Harbor Clearance Unit One at Naval Station Subic Bay, Philippines.
