Summary

[edit]
Description The U.S. Navy Cruiser Divison 12 as Task Force 39 underway. Early in March 1943, TF 39 swept along the line between Truk and Kavieng in search of enemy shipping, then covered the assault and occupation of Emirau Island from 17 to 23 March. CRUDIV 12 consisted of the Clevland-class light cruisers USS Cleveland (CL-55), USS Columbia (CL-56), and USS Montpelier (CL-57), flagship. As the photo was probably taken from Columbia, the cruisers visible are Cleveland and Montpelier.
