English: SIHANOUKVILLE, Kingdom of Cambodia (Nov. 26, 2007)
Boatswain's Mate Petty Officer 2nd Class Bertram O. Bonadie steers the Captain's GIG off the coast of Kampon Saom in order for Tak Vantha, left, commander of Police, and Heng Nin, right, commander of Police Military, along with many other senior officers of Sihanoukville, to attend the arrival ceremony held aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Essex and the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) arrived in Sihanoukville for a port visit to give Sailors and Marines the opportunity to participate in friendship-building community relations events, medical and dental projects and professional exchanges. Essex is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. Expeditionary Strike Group and serves as the flagship for CTF 76, the Navy's only permanently forward-deployed amphibious force commander. Task Force 76 is headquartered at White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, Japan. U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Christian Lemus (Released) |
