English: NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (March 6, 2007) - Former Commanding Officer of USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Capt. Richard Martin and current Commanding Officer, Capt. Ted Carter take a moment to pose with Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard employees after a commemorative plaque and coin were welded under the mast of the ship during a mast stepping ceremony. The stepping of the ship's mast is a Navy tradition in which a coin is placed at the base of a ship's mast to bring good luck and safe voyages for a vessel.
