English: Jolo Island, Philippines (Feb. 20, 2007) - Builder 2nd Class Chad Smith, right, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three and Pfc. Marlon Seytes, a Philippine Marine from the 5th Marines, work together to build a new school in the village of Taglibi during Balikatan 2007. Balikatan means "Shouldering the load together," and is an annual exercise for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) supported by the U.S. Military. It focuses on teamwork during humanitarian, medical and engineering projects throughout the Philippines. Balikatan ensures the AFP and U.S. personnel can work together in crisis and non-crisis circumstances while maintaining the U.S./Philippines security partnership.
