English: South China Sea (Aug. 29, 2006) - USS Kitty Hawk Sailors (CV 63) hold onto lifelines as a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) is lifted from the water after participating in a small boat in distress and rescue drill. RHIBs are used to transport Sailors to other vessels in an effort to fight fires, stop flooding and help crewmembers and passengers. USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), At Sea (Aug 29, 2006) - USS Kitty Hawk Sailors hold onto life lines as a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) is lifted from the water after participating in a small boat in distress and rescue drill. In such drills, RHIBs are used to transport Sailors to other vessels in an effort to fight fires, stop flooding and help crewmembers and passengers. RHIBs are the Navy's standard small boat and can be quickly launched on missions ranging from rescues to transporting people between ships. The Kitty Hawk, and its embarked air wing, is currently at sea in the Western Pacific Ocean as part of the U.S. 7th Fleet. The Yokosuka, Japan-based ship is the only U.S. aircraft carrier permanently deployed overseas. U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Joshua Wayne LeGrand |
