English: Coronado, Calif. (Aug. 24, 2006) - Lt. Cmdr. Sam Scafe, assigned to Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron Three Four (NCWRON-34), embraces his family while waiting to depart from Naval Air Station, North Island to Kuwait. NCWRON-34 is scheduled to conduct port security operations in support of the global war on terrorism. In January the Navy created the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, (NECC), consolidating Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Naval Coastal Warfare, Navy Expeditionary Logistic Support functions and Seabees under one organization. NECC integrates all war fighting requirements for expeditionary combat and combat support elements. This transformation allows for standardized training, manning and equipping of Sailors who will participate on the global war on terrorism as part of the joint force. Coronado, Calif. (August 24, 2006) Lt. Cmdr. Sam Scafe, attached to Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron Three Four (NCWRON 34), embraces his family while waiting to depart from Naval Air Station, North Island to Kuwait. NCWRON 34 is scheduled to conduct port security operations in support of the global war on terrorism. In January the Navy created the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, bringing EOD, Naval Costal Warfare, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support and the Seabees under one umbrella. NECC integrates all war fighting requirements for expeditionary combat and combat support elements. This transformation allows for standardized training, manning and equipping of Sailors who will participate in the Global War on Terrorism as part of the joint force. It also results in more capable, responsive and effective expeditionary Sailors. U.S. Navy Photo By Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Patrick M. Kearney |
