English: Souda Bay, Crete, Greece (June 29, 2006) - Crew members aboard USS Nashville (LPD 13) man a MK-38 25-mm Machine Gun as they arrive for a routine port visit. Nashville’s is the tenth ship in the Austin-class of Amphibious Transport Docks. She departed her homeport of Norfolk, Virginia for a regularly scheduled six-month deployment as part of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group. The 25mm Machine Gun System (MGS) Mk-38 is a 25mm automatic gun system that provides ships with a defensive and offensive gunfire capability while engaging a variety of surface targets. It is designed to provide close range defense against patrol boats, swimmers, floating mines, and various targets ashore including; enemy personnel, lightly armored vehicles and terrorist threats.
