English: Persian Gulf (Sept. 23, 2005) – Crew members conduct a Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walkdown on the flight deck aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). The task is performed each day and night before flight operations to ensure the flight deck is clear of all foreign objects, which could be ingested by jet aircraft, damaging expensive equipment or place flight deck personnel in danger. The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group is currently on a regularly scheduled deployment and is participating in Maritime Security Operations (MSO). MSO set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations.
