English: Chalmette, La. (Sept. 18, 2005) – Electrician's Mate 3rd Class Wesley Huizenga and Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Shane King assist local law enforcement breech the second floor window to access medical equipment that will be salvaged from the Chalmette Medical Center hospital after flooding from Hurricane Katrina devastated the facility and the surrounding community of the St. Bernard Parish. Petty Officers Huizenga and King are assigned to the amphibious transport dock USS Shreveport (LPD 12). The Navy's involvement in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations are led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
