English: New Orleans (Sept. 6, 2005) - U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to the dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) search flooded New Orleans neighborhoods for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Survivors and evacuees are brought to the ship where they receive meals, beds and medical assistance. Tortuga is currently moored at Naval Support Activity New Orleans in support of Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations. The Navy's involvement in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
