English: Everett, Wash. (July 20, 2005) - U.S. Coast Guard Machinery Technician 2nd Class Joshua Byrd opens the Blow Down Valves to clean out the cylinders of the number one diesel during Light Off Assessment (LOA) aboard the new littoral Surface Craft-Experimental (X-Craft), christened Sea Fighter (FSF-1). LOA assesses the engineering Training Team and Damage Control Training Team to make sure they are capable of training the ship. It also takes a hard look at the equipment aboard the ship to make sure it is safe to operate and is a requirement for all Navy ships being put into service for any extended amount of time.
