Description
English: Taranto, Italy (June 20, 2005) – U.S. Navy Divers in a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit Two (MDSU2) watch the United Kingdom's submarine rescue vehicle LR-5 after hooking it up to the crane from the Finnish ship Fennica. MDSU2 and LR-5 are testing their capabilities to rescue Sailors on submarines from the ocean's depths during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) submarine escape and rescue exercise Sorbet Royal 2005. Twenty-seven participating nations, including 14 NATO nations will test their capabilities and interoperability. Four submarines with up to 52 crewmembers aboard will be placed on the bottom of the ocean, while rescue forces with rescue vehicles and systems work together to solve complex disaster rescue problems.
