English: Pacific Ocean (May 19, 2005) – Commanding Officer, USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), Capt. Thomas Parker, monitors the distance between the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC) underway replenishment oiler USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) during a replenishment at sea. The lateral distance between Kitty Hawk and Tippecanoe during RAS operations must be constantly monitored by the captain of the ship and his crew to maintain safety for both ships. Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
