English: Persian Gulf (Apr. 17, 2005) – Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Donald Rupert pulls out the refueling hose and drogue from an Aerial Refueling Store (ARS) during maintenance in the hangar bay aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). The Aerial Refueling Store (ARS) is a combination external fuel tank and hose reel used for aerial refueling operations. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is conducting operations in support of multi-national forces in Iraq and maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf. Carl Vinson will end its deployment with a homeport shift to Norfolk, Va., and will conduct a three-year refuel and complex overhaul. The probe is part of Air Refuel Store System (ARS) that makes possible aircraft inflight refueling. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf. The strike group is conducting operations in support of multi-national forces in Iraq and maritime security operations in the Gulf in order to set the conditions for security and stability in the region.
