English: Sea of Japan (Mar. 25, 2005) - Operations Specialist Seaman Russell Ward, left, and Operations Specialist Seaman Nicholas Swann, monitor the surrounding area around the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) from the Combat Direction Center (CDC). The operational nerve center of Kitty Hawk, CDC collects and processes data received from a wide variety of sources and disseminates the data to other parts of Kitty Hawk for use in properly employing the various ships in the Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group. Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility, Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
