English: Gonaives, Haiti (Mar. 10, 2005) - U.S. Navy Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One (NMCB-1), construct a new school for students in Gonaives, Haiti. NMCB-1 is constructing the new school to replace Ecole N.D. de la Nativite elementary school, shown back left, which was buried in more than 10 feet of water after the hurricanes of 2004. Reconstruction and renovation in Gonaives is slow since much of the city's infrastructure was severely damaged and electricity is yet to be restored to the city. NMCB-1 is part of the New Horizon Task Force, which is deployed to Haiti for three months to conduct humanitarian construction and medical assistance. The construction projects include building three schoolhouses, and drilling three potable water wells. U.S. Navy photo by Chief Journalist Dave Fliesen (RELEASED) |
