USS Carl VInson (February 14,2005) --Members of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11 Detachment 9 (EODMU 11 DET 9) participate in a fast rope exercise involving rapelling out of an SH-60 helicopter from the "Eightballers" of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 8 (HS-8). The Carl Vinson Strike group is on a six-month deployment in support of U.S. cooperative security commitments, to promote peace and stability and respond to emergent events overseas. The nuclear powered aircraft carrier will end its deployment with a homeport shift to Norfolk, Va. where it will begin its refueling and complex overhaul, or RCOH. This three-year maintenance period will virtually turn the ship into a new carrier with some of the most modern equipment in the Navy and allowing it to serve at least another 25 years.U.S. Navy Photo by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Inez Lawson. |
