Description
English: San Diego, Calif (Jan. 22, 2004) – Executive Officer of the USS Tarawa (LHA 1) Capt. Peter D. Murphy and crewmembers stands at parade rest during a burial at sea ceremony. Three flag-draped castes and the cremated remains of ten individuals were laid to rest in the Pacific Ocean. The Burial at Sea is a means of final disposition of remains that is performed on Unites States Navy vessels. Unfortunately, family members were not allowed to be present. Once the burial ceremony has been completed, a Tarawa's representative will notify the families of the date, time, longitude and latitude.
