English: Pacific Ocean (Dec. 6, 2004) – A rainbow forms as a Sailor makes a final check of the Countermeasure Washdown System (CMWDS) on the flight deck aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4). The CMWDS provides a blanket of water protection to the exterior of a ship during a chemical, biological or radiological (CBR) attack. This shield of water washes CBR contaminants over the side before they can adhere to the ship’s surface or affect the crew. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Rudy Polach (RELEASED) |
