Image title | 041116-N-1438S-001 AL ANBAR, Iraq -- CECN Gabriel Pena of Santa Ana, Calif., is a turret gunner on a Seabee Engineer Reconnaisance Team (SERT) team convoy. "We're not in Kansas anymore," says Pena, as the team sets out on a mission to assess damage to railway lines at the city limits of Fallujah, Iraq. Early in the day, the team found a 155mm howitzer-round "improvised explosive device" [IED} disguised on a rail track. Later, they encountered sniper fire while taking measurements near an embankment. Through it all, Pena stays ready and watches intently. "I'm checking my fields of fire, checking my ranges," he said. "I've got my finger on the trigger." Ultimately, the team returned to camp safely and ready for what the next day brings. U.S. Navy photograph by JOC(AW) Suzanne M. Speight. (RELEASED) |
