English: Pacific Ocean (Aug. 4, 2004) - An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron One Zero Two (VFA-102) throttles up to afterburner prior to being launched off the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Flight operations are conducted around the clock to ensure optimum proficiency for pilots, squadrons and ship's personnel. The Kitty Hawk Strike Group is one of seven carrier strike groups (CSGs) involved in Summer Pulse '04, demonstrating the Navy's ability to provide credible combat power across the globe in five theaters with other U.S., allied, and coalition military forces. Summer Pulse is the Navy's first test of its new Fleet Response Plan (FRP). Kitty Hawk is the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan. SEA OF JAPAN (Aug. 4, 2004) - An F/A-18F Super Hornet from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102 throttles up to military power prior to being launched off the angle deck of USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control, as the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
