English: Pacific Ocean (July 8, 2004) - Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Seth Deboer retrieves an AQS-24 mine locator during a mine countermeasure operation. The AQS-24 is a devise which is lowered into the water and towed behind an MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter, and is designed to use sonar and laser technology to photograph underwater mines. Deboer is assigned to Helicopter Mine Counter Measure Squadron One Four (HM-14). HM-14 is currently deployed aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Dubuque (LPD 8). HM-14 and Dubuque are participating in exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2004. RIMPAC is the largest international maritime exercise in the waters around the Hawaiian Islands. This years exercise includes seven participating nations; Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. RIMPAC is intended to enhance the tactical proficiency of participating units in a wide array of combined operations at sea, while enhancing stability in the Pacific Rim region. USS Dubuque (LPD 8) July 8, 2004-- Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Seth Deboer retrieves the AN/AQS-24 mine locator which utilizes a sonar/laser technique to locate and photograph mines. During this Mine Counter Measure operation (MCM), the AQS-24 is lowered into the water and towed behind the MH-53 Sea Dragon helicopter. Deboer is assigned to Helicopter Mine Counter Measure Squadron One Four (HM-14). HM-14 is currently attached to USS Dubuque (LPD 8). Dubuque is acting as the command ship for all MCM operations performed in the area. The ship is one of many U.S. ships participating in exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2004.
