English: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (May 21, 2004) - Pacific Fleet's deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Fleet Supply and Ordnance, Rear Adm. Michael S. Roesner, assists West Loch survivor Roy Sannela in piloting the admirals barge while returning from the 60th Commemoration of the West Loch Disaster near Pearl Harbor. On May 21, 1944, two dozen ammunition ships moored in preparation for an attack on Saipan, suddenly exploded, resulting in a deadly chain reaction. The explosions left 163 dead and 396 injured and eight ships lost. More than 125 invited guests and ceremony participants commemorated the tragedy and honored the nine survivors present at Naval Magazine Pearl Harbor.
