English: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (May 21, 2004) - Pacific Fleet's deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Fleet Supply and Ordnance, Rear Adm. Michael S. Roesner, speaks to guests and survivors at the 60th Commemoration of the West Loch Disaster near Pearl Harbor, with the wreckage of Tank Landing Ship Four Eight Zero (LST-480) in the background. LST-480 was one of 29 LSTs gathered in Pearl Harbor's West Loch, loading ammunition in preparation for the invasion of Saipan. On May 21, 1944, a sudden explosion resulted in a deadly chain reaction. The explosions left 163 dead and 396 injured and eight ships lost. More than 125 invited guests and ceremony participants commemorated the tragedy and honored the nine survivors present at Naval Magazine Pearl Harbor.
