English: 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) Feb. 19, 2004 – An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the “Diamondbacks” of Strike Fighter Squadron One Zero Two (VFA 102), is directed to one of four steam catapults onboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) prior to launch. The Super Hornet provides the carrier strike group with a strike fighter that has significant growth potential, increased range and armament. Currently under way in the 7th Fleet AOR, Kitty Hawk is America’s oldest active aircraft carrier, commissioned in 1961, and is the United State’s Navy’s only forward deployed aircraft carrier.
