Description
English: At sea aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Oct. 29, 2002 -- A plane captain for Fleet Logistic Support Squadron Three Zero (VRC 30), Detachment 5, signals for engine start up on a C-2A “Greyhound.” Specific hand signs are used to indicate the varying states of engine status, while communicating from the flight deck to the aircrew in the planes cockpit. Kitty Hawk's current mission is to provide a forward presence in the Asia/Pacific region, participate in exercises with regional allies, and remains available to respond to emergent national taskings wherever and whenever needed. Kitty Hawk is the world’s only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier and operates out of Yokosuka, Japan. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 3rd Class Todd Frantom. (RELEASED)
