Description
English: At sea aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Jul. 24, 2002 -- An F/A-18E "Super Hornet" from the “Eagles” of Strike Fighter Squadron One One Five (VFA-115) piloted by Lt. Corey L. Pritchard, makes the first carrier arrested landing of the “Super Hornet” signifying the start of its maiden combat deployment. VFA-115 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing One Four (CVW-14). The F/A18-E “Super Hornet” is an evolutionary upgrade of the combat-proven F/A18-C and D models, and is fully capable to conduct both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat missions. This includes air superiority, day and night strike with precision-guided weapons, fighter-escort, and close air support, suppression of enemy air defenses, reconnaissance, forward air control and refueling. The Super Hornet has greater range and endurance, can carry a heavier payload, has enhanced survivability, and a built-in potential to incorporate future systems and technologies. The Abraham Lincoln battle group deployed on July 20, 2002, and will be conducting missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and Southern Watch.
