Description
English: 020215-N-5745B-002 Mustang Island State Park, TX (Feb. 15, 2002) -- Maintenance personnel from Helicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron One Five (HM-15) prepare a MK-105 minesweeping sled for towing operations in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. An MH-53E “Sea Dragon” helicopter will tow the sled with a 450-foot cable through simulated mine fields. A gas turbine engine on the sled generates electrical power and sends it to cables connected to the sled. The cables can simulate the magnetic or acoustic signature of a ship, causing mines to detonate at sea. U.S. Navy photo by Lieutenant Marc Boyd. (RELEASED)
