Description
English: A Basler BT-67 coastal survey airplane assigned to the Naval Oceanographic Office arrives at Naval Station Mayport for a capabilities demonstration prior to deploying to the U.S. 4th Fleet area of responsibility.
The Basler BT-67 is a converted Douglas DC-3. This particular DC-3 conducted its first test flight on 17 December 1935, where it was implemented into the American Airlines fleet. Last operator was the Canadian Kenn Borek Air (civil registration "C-FBKB"). The BT-67 is replacing a Beechcraft King Air 200, which will provide a wider range to be able to conduct survey missions. The current collection system on the airplane is called the Coastal Zone Mapping and Imaging Lidar system. It is used to evolve airborne coastal mapping sensors that collect data important to coastal engineers, planners and nautical charting authorities.
