Summary
[edit]DescriptionUS Masi seal Lewis skippet mold.jpg | A mold made to create skippets (containers for the actual wax seals) used on treaties, made by Samuel Lewis of Washington D.C. In 1871, this mold was used to create at least one wax seal actually used with a treaty (a February 26, 1871 treaty with Italy which was sealed on April 29, 1871), meaning this could be considered an official die of the Great Seal of the United States. The use of pendant seals (and thus skippets and this mold) were discontinued later in 1871. |
