Description
English: The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Wasp (CV-7) after being torpedoed by the Japanese submarine I-19 on 15 September 1942. Wasp was engaged in covering the movement of supplies and reinforcements into Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. Note open 5"/25 caliber gun gun mount and the 20 mm Oerlikon in the foreground. The only ship present having 5/25 guns in open mounts was the heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City (CA-25).
