Summary

[edit]
Description Map showing where the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Walker (DD-517) collided with two Soviet destroyers on 10 and 11 May 1967. Soviet ships harassed the USS Hornet (CVS-12) carrier group operating in the Sea of Japan. On 10 May, the Soviet Spokoynyy-class destroyer Besslednyy (022) collided with the Walker side-by-side on 10 May 1967, with minor damage to both ships. Late in the afternoon on 11 May, a Soviet Krupnyy-class destroyer (025, Gordyy?) began to maneuver in an attempt to close Hornet; Walker effectively maneuvered the ship away. The Soviet destroyer than signaled a left turn. Walker signaled "do not cross ahead of me." The Soviet ship came left and collided with Walker causing minor damage to both ships.
