Description
English: The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CVA-45) leaving the Pedro Miguel Locks of the Panama Canal, circa 18 August 1953. On deck are Grummen TBM Avenger aircraft and private cars of the crew.
Note: Valley Forge transferred from the Pacific to the Atlantic Fleet before her redesignation as an anti-submarine warfare carrier (CVS) on 1 January 1954. Taking the destription, the photo was taken by 1367th Photo Flight, U.S. Air Force, from Albrook Air Force Base, on 15 November 1954. The private vehicles carried dates the photo point to the time of the homeport change.
