Description
English: Insignia of the U.S. Navy sbumarine rescue ship USS Sunbird (ASR-15). This insignia was adopted in 1964.
Official description: The colors red, white, and blue represent the nation, while blue and gold symbolize the Navy. Black is used in the ribbon to honor those who died in the performance of submarine rescue duty. The anchor stands for seamanship. The diving helmet represents undersea fortitude. The rescue chamber is used as a symbol or the Sunbird's rescue mission. The black fish in the red square is the old ASR symbol. The six stars were for the six (then) Atlantic Fleet ASRs.
