[edit]DescriptionUSS Shoup, Faces of RIMPAC 16 160729-N-KR702-064.jpg |
English: 160729-N-KR702-064 PACIFIC OCEAN (June 29, 2016) – Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Daisy Zuniga, from Rialto, California, is the first of her immediate family members to serve in the United States Navy. After joining the Navy to make a better life for herself and her family, Zuniga is closing in on her fourth year of service onboard the USS Shoup (DDG 86). This is her first time participating in a Rim of the Pacific exercise and she is proud to get the opportunity.
"I think it's really cool to be here. I have never been a part of RIMPAC before. Our under ways are normally hectic. We stay busy with flight operations, Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat exercises and other types of drills, but RIMPAC keeps us even more busy, there is always something to do." "Getting to see all of these ships in formation for the first time has been one of my favorite parts. It's really amazing that we get the opportunity to come out and make the kind of relationships that we are right now." Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Holly L. Herline/Released) Unit: Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet |
