Description

The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-60) launches aircraft. Saratoga, with assigned Carrier Air Wing 3 (CVW-3), was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea from 6 January to 28 July 1976.

A McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II from Fighter Squadron 103 (VF-103) "Sluggers" has just missed the wire and accelerates on the left. A F-4J of VF-31 "Tomcatters" is waiting for launch in the foreground. To the left are a Lockheed S-3A Viking from Anti-Submarine Squadron 22 "Checkmates" and a Ling-Temco-Vought A-7E Corsair II from Attack Squadron 105 (VA-105) "Gunslingers".
