English: The U.S. Navy escort carrier USS Rendova (CVE-114) entering Gibraltar harbour in April 1948, with a deckload of aircraft, including North American T-6 Texan training planes to be delivered to the Turkish Air Force. The photo was taken from the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45), which was then on her 'round the World cruise from 9 October 1947 to 11 June 1948. Note the Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat fighters frim Fighter Squadrons VF-11A "Sundowners" (V-1XX) and VF-12A "Fighting Twelve" (V-2XX) in the foreground. |
