Description The U.S. Navy stores ship USS Regulus (AF-57) underway on 26 January 1954. Regulus was originally launched in 1944 and named Escanaba Victory. Initially operated for the Maritime Commission by the American South African Line, she was acquired by the U.S. Navy from the Commission's successor, the United States Maritime Administration, on 5 May 1952. She was converted by the Todd Shipyard, Brooklyn, New York (USA), and and commissioned as USS Regulus (AF-57) on 3 February 1954.
