SK is a quarterly exercise that integrates surface and aviation unitsâ ability to utilize established tactics, techniques and procedures against small boat threats as well as maintaining mine countermeasure defense to eliminate maritime surface threats. Mitscher, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, strike operations in Iraq and Syria as directed, maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the region.
