Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carriers USS Midway (CV-41), lower left, and USS Independence (CV-62) lie tied up at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (USA), in 1990. The Midway was en route from Naval Station Yokosuka, Japan, to Naval Air Station North Island, California (USA), where it was decommissioned in the spring of 1992. The Independence traveled to Yokosuka to take over as the U.S. Navy's forward-based aircraft carrier. The USS Arizona Memorial and Ford Island are in the background.
