POLARIS POINT, Guam (Sept. 20, 2012) Sailors man the conning tower aboard the Ohio-class nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine USS Michigan (SSGN 727) as the submarine prepares to depart from the submarine tender USS Emory S Land (AS 39). Michigan, homeported in Bangor, Wash., is on a deployment of the western Pacific. Emory S. Land, homeported in Diego Garcia, is on an extended deployment to Guam, conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 7th fleet area of operations.
