Accession# 85-262-F Bell, Ship, USS Monticello LSD-35 Height 23.5" Diameter 20" USS Monticello was the third ship to bear this name, named after Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia. The Monticello was laid down by Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp, Pascagoula, Miss and launched on the 10th of August 1956. The ship was commissioned on the 29th March 1957 with Capt J.T. Hodgson Jr. in command. LSD-35 a Thomaston Class Dock Landing Ship saw service during the Vietnam Conflict earning the ship 11 battle stars. The bell is engraved, " USS Monticello 1957."
