English: This photograph was published by the United States Navy on 9 April 2024, but was soon deleted after it caused an embarrassing situation due to online mockery. It depicts the commanding officer of a U.S. guided missile destroyer, improperly holding an assault weapon with the Trijicon VCOG scope installed backward while its protective cover closed. The Navy later wrote on various social media accounts: “Thank you for pointing out our rifle scope error in the previous post, Picture has been removed until EMI [extra military instruction] is completed.” (Stars and Stripes)
Original caption: "PACIFIC OCEAN (Mar. 25, 2024) Cmdr. Cameron Yaste, the Commanding Officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), fires at the "killer tomato" during a gun shoot. The ship is in U.S. 7th Fleet conducting routine operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific Region.
