Summary

[edit]
Description Families and friends of the crew of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) gather on the pier at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia (USA), as the ship departs for Vietnam on 4 June 1968. Moored nearby is the carrier USS Forrestal (CVA-59). Intrepid had been an anti-submarine warfare carrier in the Atlantic Fleet since 1962, but made three deployments to Vietnam as an attack carrier with Carrier Air Wing 10 (CVW-10). Her last deployment was from 4 June 1968 to 1 February 1969.
