Description View of the aft flight deck of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV-62) off the U.S. East Coast on 14 January 1979. Various aircraft are visible: in the foreground is a Grumman E-2C Hawkeye from carrier airborne early warning squadron VAW-122 Steeljaws. At the end of the line are two Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King helicopters from helicopter anti-submarine squadron HS-15 Red Lions. The aircraft belonged to Carrier Air Wing 6 (CVW-6) which was assigned to Independence at that time. In between are a Grumman F-14A Tomcat of from fighter training squadron VF-101 Grim Reapers, and a Mcdonnell Douglas F-4S Phantom II from fighter training squadron VF-171 Aces.
