Description The first U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer USS Gyatt (DD-712) underway off Boston, Massachusetts (USA), on 3 December 1956. Gyatt had been recommissioned on that day and was redesignated "DDG-712" on 30 December. Note the Terrier missile launcher aft. Gyatt used a modified Mk 37 gun director to guide the missiles. On 23 May 1957, the destroyer was redesignated to "DDG-1". She became "DD-712", again, after removal of the Terrier-installation on 1 October 1962.
