Summary

[edit]
Description The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9) departs Hunter Point Navy Yard, San Francisco, California (USA), bound for the Pacific, 15 April 1944. Note the small hull number and her newly applied camouflage measure 32 design 6/10D. As Essex had just completed her only wartime overhaul, she did not receive any additional 40 mm quadruple mounts on the stern or the starboard side.
