Summary
[edit]DescriptionUSS Cavalla - cavitation indicator.jpg |
English: Cavitation indicator in the engine compartment of the Gato-class USS Cavalla (SS-244) submarine. The retired submarine is a museum at Seawolf Park in Galveston, Texas, USA.
Cavitation is when a void or bubble forms in a liquid due to hydrodynamic forces. When subjected to higher pressure, they collapse and can generate shock waves that may damage the propellers. In addition, the popping bubbles make noise which may reveal the submarine's location. |
