Summary

[edit]
Description 070221-N-9703H-021 Newport News, Va. - A portion of a newly manufactured mast is lifted via crane onto the superstructure of USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) by employees from Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard. The installation of the ship’s mast is a major milestone along the road towards re-delivering USS Carl Vinson to the fleet for another 25 years of responding to the nation’s tasking. USS Carl Vinson is currently undergoing its scheduled refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard. The RCOH is an extensive yard period that all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers go through near the mid-point of their 50-year life cycle.
